The Raspberry Pi Zero is about the size of a stick of chewing gum but comes with endless possibilities for everyone from programmers looking to create fun new projects to students learning about programming in the classroom.

Self-driving Cars Has a Big Market According to a Report

According to a report from BI Intelligence,self-driving cars are no longer a futuristic idea. Self-driving car companies like BMW,Mercedes, and Tesla have already released, or are soon to release, self-driving features that give the car some ability to drive itself. Tech companies are also trying to pioneer the self-driving car. The reropt also provided an in-depth analysis for how we see the self-driving car progressing over the next five years after analyzing the current state of the self-driving cars.

  • We divide the self-driving car into two different types: semi-autonomous and fully autonomous. A fully autonomous vehicle can drive from point A to point B and encounter the entire range of on-road scenarios without needing any interaction from the driver. These will debut  in 2019.
  • Self-driving cars are not some futuristic auto technology; in fact there are already cars with self-driving features on the road.  We define the self-driving car as any car with features that allow it to accelerate, brake, and steer a car's course with limited or no driver interaction.
  • By the end of the forecast period, we expect there will be nearly 10 million cars with one of our defined self-driving car features. 
  • Fully autonomous cars are further divided into user-operated and driverless vehicles. Because of regulatory and insurance questions, user-operated fully autonomous cars will come to market within the next five years, while driverless cars will remain a long ways off.
  • The biggest benefits of self-driving cars are that they will help to make roads safer and people's lives easier. In the UK, KPMG estimates that self-driving cars will lead to 2,500 fewer deaths between 2014 and 2030.
  • The barriers to self-driving cars remain significant. Costs need to come down and regulations need to be clarified around certain self-driving car features before the vehicles fully take off among mainstream consumers.

  • The enterprise sector will lead the IoT, accounting for 46% of device shipments this year, but that share will decline as the government and home sectors gain momentum. By 2019, government will be the leading sector for IoT device shipments.
  • The main benefit of growth in the IoT will be increased efficiency and lower costs. The IoT promises increased efficiency within the home, city, and workplace by giving control to the user. However, many are hesitant to use devices as security problems are still an issue.
  • The IoT lacks a common set of standards and technologies that would allow for compatibility and ease-of-use. There are currently few standards (or regulations) for what is needed to run an IoT device. Consortia that group together global industrial, tech, and electronics companies are involved in an effort to standardize the IoT and solve the most pressing security concerns.

The Rapid Growth of Onboard Ethernet

Ethernet has been widely used in family, school and data centers, and became the most mainstream technical standards of cable transmission in the market. At the same time, growing number of mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablet computers and cars also drive the car demand for network. 
Timothy Lau thinks the main reason why the onboard Ethernet is favored is that lower cost, lighter weight and higher wire network transmission rate.

Seven Cars Supporting Apple's CarPlay and Google's Android System

There are seven cars supporting Apple's CarPlay and Google's Android system-Vauxhall Astra,Ferrari FF,Citroen DS4,Benz A-Class,Porsche 911,Ferrari California,Audi A4. Apple's CarPlay and Google's Android are able to connect automotive embedded infotainment and navigation system with smart phone which allow drivers can use phone’s function on the bus,such as music,maps and information and many other third-party applications.

The development of these two vehicle system is not fast. Taking CarPlay as an example, last year's Geneva motor show only several models of Ferrari supported the systemin March. However,in this year's Frankfurt motor show , there have been many car manufacturers promised to support these two systems.
The Vauxhall Astra
A new Vauxhall Astra listed in 2016 will support CarPaly and Android Auto. The driver can undertake the operations on capacitive touch screen.7 inches display screen is the standard. But with additional payments, it can be upgraded to 8 inches, and equipped GPS system. In addition, this model will also provide OneStar system, which can provide emergency services for the driver and driving auxiliary functions like 4 g hot spot.
The Ferrari FF
Ferrari is the first to implement,while almost every carmaker said they would support CarPlay. However, Ferrari FF currently only support CarPlay. Drivers can control the system through the capacitive touch screen as well as the physical buttons on either side of the screen. All-wheel drive and other high-end configuration make the price for this model for more than 2.3 million yuan.

The Citroen DS4
Citroen DS4 listed in November supports CarPlay. Its standard edition will be equipped with a 7-inch touch screen. All the operations can be done through touch screen or Siri assistant, while Android Auto version  wil be listed until next year.
Benz A-Class
Benz A-Class supporting CarPlay will be on the market next year. Standard edition will pick up 7 inch touch screen, which can be upgraded to 8 inches. The user can choose different specifications of the engine.
The porsche 911
The new Porsche 911 will support CarPlay. But it still does not support Android Auto.Equipped with 7 inch capacitive touch screen, the proximity sensor,the driver can undertake the operations without actually touch the screen.
Ferrari California
Ferrari California also only support CarPlay system at present. The new California can control THE system through touch screen interface. Of course, it also can achieve the same effect by Siri. In addition, this model also joined the twin turbo V8 engine and scalable.
Audi A4
The new audi A4 carried a tandard touch 7 inch screen with resolution of 800 x 480 .At the same time it supports CarPlay and Android Auto. High-end models of touch screen specification upgraded to 8.3 inches. The resolution is 1024 x 480 pixels. The driver can be controlled by rotating button, multi-function steering wheel and voice to realize multiple operations.

Automotive Industry’s Demand for Chip Show the Strongest Growth Compared with Other Industry Branches

It is reported that automotive industry’s demand for chip show the strongest growth compared with other industry branches according to IC Insights(market research agency) while traditional demand like computer and consumer markets only show anaemic growth. And as its disproportionally high growth, Asia will surpass Europe as the largest automotive chip market and its CAGR(Compound Average Growth Rate) will get to 10.4%in 2015.
As IC Insights prediction,during the time from 2014to 2019, chip demand from the automotive industry is growing at an average pace of 6.7% per year, which is higher than the CAGR of the overall chip industry (4.3 %)with 2% .
IC Insights makes the entire chip industry into six segments:Consumer,Automotive, Communications, Computer, , government/military and industrial/medical.
The reason why automotive industry keep strong demand for chip is that this market is growing from a smaller base compared to all other market segments save government/military and industrial/medical. Other factors keeping chip demand from this industry high is the sharply rising semiconductor content of increasingly connected and automated. The World's First Car by 3D Printer Will Launch Next Spring

The LM3D Swim model has been built on September 18. LOCAL MOTORS are looking for manufacturers which can offer the power motors and embedded systems. LOCAL MOTORS held a car race. In the end,the first 3D printed car in the world-LM3D Swim won. The 3D printed car will be launched in the next spring at the price of $53000.


The spokesman of LOCAL MOTORS said:
LM3D Swim can provide highly customized product solutions for the user, and the aesthetic design of car body can realized only by DDM and 3D printing technology. Traditional craft of making cars can't do it easily. LM3D Swim console will use removable design patterns.
According to the market demand,the annual output number of LM3D Swim is about 2400.

The following raspberry tablets is also made by 3D printing technology,and equipped with a 7-inch touch. The cost of the whole machine for 49 pounds.

All Kinds of Emedded Systems Will Be in the Car

All kinds of emedded systems will be in the car. A self-driving cars boom was aroused. After Tesla launched the autopilot system,a self-driving cars boom was aroused.The major automobile manufacturers have launched their own autopilot system products.Part of them has been undertaking test on the actual road.
 

According to Engadget, Nissan plan will launch vehicle with automatic driving system in late 2016. The vehicle system equipes with a laser scanner. Its 3D measurement will carried out on the road to determine the surrounding roads.Car body will install a 360 °on multiple cameras helping system judging the road more carefully.

At present,Nissan has put the Leaf into urban road or the road test.In 2018,they say, is the function of the system to change lanes, by the year 2020 will be realized in urban road completely autonomous unmanned.


In 2015 Honda China media conference, Honda issued the latest Funtec technology, including Honda SENSING safe driving assistant system and Honda car CONNECT Internet navigation interconnected system.

Next year,the two systems will be embedded into the new intermediate car, including collision mitigation brake system, lane migration inhibition, follow with low speed mode, and lane keep assist system and Honda CONNECT remote vehicle diagnostic system.


In addition, the Volkswagen also launched long distance test of an autopilot system. Toyota is also planning to launch self-driving cars in 2020.



As tesa CEO Elon Musk predicted:

That will be the case at some point in the future. Like maybe five or six years from now I think we'll be able to achieve true autonomous driving where you could literally get in the car, go to sleep and wake up at your destination.He added that it may take a few years beyond the point when the technology is ready for regulators to sign off on it.

The Latest Patents -Nikon Cars Embedded System

After the smart bottle, Nikon has another weird patent for a device like camera as cars embedded system. The vehicle embedded patent is for a "crime preventing" device - in case of an emergency.


When facing the emergency,The car will send photos to the police,  and display a warning message, lock the doors and seatbelt and self-drive itself to the nearest police station.


Many people,including me, think maybe Nikon is thinking to get into the self-driving/autopilot car revolution that has been making headlines lately? But some people don’t thiink so. There is a a net friend saying:
Nikon is getting into the self-driving car business? I don't think so. If they can't get AF to work half the time, I don't think I want them designing anything that's going to self-drive the car, even to a police station. Besides, if you lock a car thief in the car, they are going to do anything to get out and they'll destroy your car. But Nikon should have gotten into the car "vision" business. These are the devices that newer cars are using to avoid accidents and also to facilitate future self-driving cars. One of the biggest providers of these is Mobileye, which has already locked up GM, Mitsubishi, Honda, Mini Cooper, Nissan, Jaguar Range Rover, Volvo, Opel, Hyundai, Ford, Chrysler, BMW and others.
And while it doesn't have much to do with DLSR photographers, I think Nikon has also missed the boat on the equivalent of GoPro and of drones. Certainly there has been a lot more innovation in those areas than Nikon has ever accomplished in the Coolpix or Nikon1 lines, with the possible exception of the AW. Having said that, GoPro's stock fell 16% this past Thursday because they don't expect any growth in the Christmas quarter.
